FAQ's for Radio Telemetry

Q: Will interference cause my VersaNet system to transmit false data ?
A: In a word - no!

VersaNet's intelligent radio network achieves secure and efficient data transmission from source to eventual destination in three methodical steps:-

Optimising conditions....

The multi channel synthesised radio allows easy avoidance of busy channels where deregulation permits shared bands. Intelligent 'listen before transmit , further minimises the chance of data corruption and the consequent necessity for re-transmission. Transmission conditional on input status or change further ensures system operation is optimised to the specific application.

Transmitting the data......

Each VersaNet network is identified by user defined a five character network name and each node by a number between 0 and 254. Any VersaNet input can be sent to any output(s) and any node in the system can be used as a repeater for any other node. This allows total flexibility in system architecture and freedom form limitations imposed by distance and geographical obstructions.

Ensuring data integrity......

Every VersaNet message is acknowledged back to its sender after passing five 16bit error checks. Where repeaters are used there are both local acknowledgements and end to end. In the event that an acknowledgement is not received or corruption is detected the message is retransmitted a user selectable number of times. If communication is not established within a user defined time an alarm relay is closed to inform the user of the problem.

Q: Can I easily expand my VersaNet system?
A: Yes - Adding a new node to an existing system is simply a matter of installation and configuration using the simple software supplied with the node. If you wish to add I/O to an existing node RDT supply upgrade kits containing the I/O card , fixing hardware , cables and instruction sheet.

Q: There is no power supply at my transmission point - what can I do?
A: VersaNet has various low power modes that make operation from 'alternative' power sources feasible. Most popular is the Solar Panel. A panel about 30cm square will be capable of operating a small outstation all year round through most of Europe. Call or email us for more details
