Company Profile

CML Headquarters

Radio Data Technology Ltd (RDT) is a designer and manufacturer of innovative Wireless Data, Video and Telemetry products for a multitude of customers in many industrial market sectors world-wide.

RDT products remove the problems and costs associated with using traditional cables or telephone lines when trying to communicate between two or more pieces of equipment.

Formed in 1990 by it's current parent company, CML Microsystems Plc, RDT spent three years developing a modular wireless telemetry system, VersaNet. This took advantage of the de-regulation of certain radio frequencies within Europe to allow widespread licence-free use of radio for applications such as reservoir level monitoring and pump control within the water industry. Since that time, the VersaNet product range has gained national approvals in more than 24 countries world-wide and, due to on-going development, Versanet II product  continues to be one of the most advanced and flexible product offering available on the market today.

In 1994, to compliment the VersaNet product the company launched a range of Data Transmission (Radio Modem) products. These offer the user a cost effective solution when connecting together industrial equipment whose primary means of communicating with the outside world is a serial data interface, such as, RS232, RS485 or RS422. Additions and improvements to the data transmission range over the years has ensured that the RDT name is associated with quality and performance all over the world. To compliment the range of UHF modems and to keep pace with the ever changing demands of the market, more recently we launched a range of Ethernet radio modems. We are currently working on a GPRS modem / router with telemetry capabilities.

After considerable market research and product development the wireless video product range, VideoWave, was launched in 1996. Operating on licence-free radio frequencies VideoWave is now the recognised leader in professional security markets and is distributed by many major CCTV distribution companies nationally.

The original VideoWave product operated at 1.4GHz and over the years we added models at 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz. The 5.8GHz is generally the preferred option today because of the lack of radio interference and the option of 6 different channels.  In 2007 we launched a range of digital and IP transmission products that offer much greater flexibility and performance, with transmission ranges up to 30km and the ability to handle multiple camera systems.

Radio Data Technology's leadership position in these markets is built on the Company's considerable pedigree in data and radio communications technology. The company's continued investment in research and design ensures that RDT remains the supplier of choice for so many of the world's leading companies.
