VersaNet is a wireless telemetry and remote alarm & control system, that allows the wireless interconnection of two or more pieces of equipment needing to exchange data in one of the standard process control data formats, such as, 0-5v, 0-20mA, volt-free contact, relay output, pulse counting or RS232 MODBUS format. The system is modular and hence very flexible, allowing nodes to be constructed with minimum I/O (1 digital and 1 pulse) up to maximum capacity of 128 each, digital, pulse and analogue.
The flexibility also permits the construction of simple point-to-point links or large complex networks with some nodes acting as repeaters to extend the coverage range. Communication is usually via the RDT UHF radio but the system can also utilise GSM or wire-line modems, either as the main link or as back-up to the radio.
The VersaNet system is a modular construction consisting of a main controller card, incorporating the micro-processor and radio module (or interface to GSM) and a series of I/O cards. This allows a node to be constructed to meet virtually any I/O requirement.
The VersaNet IRDN334 communication controller card incorporates the UHF radio module and has on board I/O for a single digital or pulse, or optional analogue. It is fully compatible with the complete range of expansion cards allowing complex multi I/O nodes to be constructed.
There is a wide range of expansion I/O cards available to suit most applications. These range from digital, pulse and analogue input and output cards to combination cards and specialist low power options. All the cards connect to the controller via a simple ‘T-bus’ using a ribbon cable supplied.
RDT offer a range of antennas suitable for use with VersaNet, from a simple ½ Wave Whip that mounts directly on the unit, to a high performance Yagi for long range applications.
